1000 Islands Summer School of the Arts, St. Lawrence College, Brockville, ON

A five day, 9 - 4 class in large, colourful oil painting is being held in Brockville, Ontario, at the 1000 Islands Summer School of the Arts. It is such a lovely location on the St. Lawrence River, which means a fabulous holiday as well as a fun learning course.

This course assumes knowledge of the basics of oil painting. Each student will be asked to push the limits of their ability to see objects closely, and to enlarge them to the point of simplification and/or abstraction. Our direction in the class will be to pursue larger grounds (in these case, canvases), closer viewpoints, bolder colours and simpler shapes, all the while creating strong compositions that became striking paintings.We will be taking our inspiration from Georgia O’Keeffe and will interpret our subjects, as she did, on large canvases. Subject matter will be suggested by the instructor, but students are able to choose their own.

Gallery on the Lake, Buckhorn, Ontario

Take a 3 day painting holiday at Gallery on the Lake in Buckhorn (just north of Peterborough).  I will be teaching a "Close Up and Colourful" Oil painting course on July 4, 5 and 6.  Work on a large canvas, painting with brilliant colours and new techniques. You need to have SOME oil painting experience.
